The mystery of the missing Clitoris
There was a dark period in history when the clitoris went completely missing.
The 1948 edition of Grey’s Anatomy (‘the doctors ‘bible’ the worlds leading scientific anatomical textbook) removed their incomplete button version of the clitoris citing social hygiene and morality. The clitoris made an incomplete comeback in future editions but something wasn’t quite right.
Medical sciences around the world valued women’s arousal systems so much that they continued their desperate search for the complete clitoris over the years – during that time they found the prostate in men, landed on the moon and invented nuclear physics.
It wasn’t until 1998 that the clitoris was fully discovered by Professor Helen O’Connell a female Urologist!!! A missing human organ was found after all these years. This discovery was extremely important to medical sciences. Unfortunately, the reporters had run out of lead in their pencils and couldn’t report adequately on this incredible discovery at the time, so most people didn’t get the memo.
So now your cliteracy has improved, here are some fun facts:
- The clit looks like a wishbone in shape with the tip being the only visible part, the rest of this organ – the legs and bulbs – are inside the body and run up along the vaginal canal.
- The clit is around the same size as the average penis – both are made up mainly of erectile tissue.
- The clit takes on average 25 – 45mins to become fully erect vs the penis 4 mins.
- Every clit is different in what type of stimulation it likes but reports confirm that non-genital foreplay, and feeling respected are among the top categories.
- Word on the street re arousal is to just ask – How and where do you want me to touch you?
- Blue Clit – due to the orgasm gap in heterosexual couples, women do struggle with this deeply concerning condition.
- As the clit engorges the vagina reduces in size as the bulbs and legs from the clit take up more space. A well-aroused vulva is juicy and plump.
- As the female arousal system is engaged the cervix lifts in response. An unaroused vagina with a low cervix can lead to painful sex.
- Not many women orgasm from penetration alone, most need a mix of internal and external touch to achieve orgasm.
- Did you know that the term vagina only refers to the internal cavity, not the whole genital area? The whole genital area is correctly referred to as the vulva.

To all you clit explorers out there, let us all rejoice in this incredible period in herstory. Spread the good word and remember penis in vagina sex is only one of the many ways to bring pleasure to our bodies. Slowing down and finding other arousal zones across the whole body brings deeper pleasure and a plethora of different orgasms. Take time to explore each other’s desires and fantasies over dinner. This whole body and mind approach works for everybody engaging in the sex act. It also takes the pressure off people experiencing penis erection difficulties.
